Outdoor Track Ranked In Week Three Poll
NEW ORLEANS – For the third consecutive week, the University at Albany men’s and women’s outdoor track teams hold places in the NCAA Division I Regional rankings. The men held steady at seven in the Northeast poll, while the women dropped one spot to 10.
Cornell maintained its commanding lead atop the men’s poll, with Buffalo remaining a distant second. Syracuse dropped two spots from last week to five, and Connecticut took the vacant third spot. Harvard remained in fourth. The men’s poll featured one newcomer, Iona, who jumped six spots to enter the poll at 15.
Harvard reclaimed its top spot in the women’s poll, overtaking Cornell, who dropped to third. Connecticut moved into second, while Buffalo remained in fourth. Dartmouth took fifth after jumping three spots from their position a week ago. UAlbany is no longer the sole America East representative in the women’s poll, as Vermont jumped five spots to claim the 13th spot.
The men claimed two new marks in the regional performance list. Alexander Bowen improved his high jump to 7’-0.5” at the UAlbany Spring Classic over the weekend, giving him the best high jump mark in the Northeast. Nathan Hiett is now tied for fourth in the pole vault with teammate Alfonso Scannapieco, matching Scannapieco’s jump of 16’-6.75”.
The women featured one new mark to jump into the regional performance list. Solène Bastien recorded the seventh best triple jump in the Northeast, with a mark of 39’-5” at the UAlbany Spring Classic.
Up next for the Danes is the Penn Relays, one of the biggest events on the calendar. The Relays run from Thursday, April 24 through Saturday, April 26. Athletes not competing at Penn will return to RPI for the Capital District Classic on April 26.
