Outdoor Track Ranked In Week Six Poll
NEW ORLEANS – Once again, the University at Albany men’s and women’s track teams held spots in the Northeast Regional rankings, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday. Both teams held steady in the spots they held a week ago, with the men sitting in seventh place and the women in 10th.
Cornell remained atop the men’s poll, continuing to enjoy their commanding lead. Buffalo, who had held the second spot, dropped to third, and Harvard took second after jumping two spots from where they were a week ago. Connecticut dropped one place to fourth, and Syracuse rounded out the top five in fifth. Dartmouth saw the biggest jump among the men’s teams, coming in at 11th, three spots higher than last week.
The women’s poll saw a lot of shuffling in the top five, with none of the teams repeating their spots from last week. Harvard reclaimed its spot at the top of the poll switching places once again with Connecticut, who was second. Dartmouth moved up three spots to third, and Cornell dropped one spot to fourth. Columbia jumped two spots to fifth, pushing Buffalo out of the top five. Yale improved more than any other women’s team, jumping six spots to 11th. The Vermont women were the only other America East squad in either poll.
The men’s individual performance list had one new entry this week, in the 400 hurdles. Jeremiah Obeng-Agyapong ran 52.14 at UAlbany’s Purple & Gold Last Chance Meet over the weekend, a time that places him fourth in the event in the Northeast region. Robert Harris III’s 100 of 10.59 is seventh, Alexander Bowen’s high jump of 7’-2.25” is second, Nathan Hiett’s pole vault of 16’-8.75 is fourth, Alfonso Scannapieco’s vault of 16’-6.75” is seventh, the 4×100 relay of 40.70 is fourth, and the 4×400 relay of 3:11.51 is sixth.
The women’s performance list had no new entries. Kathryn Fanning is seventh in the 1,500 in 4:22.81, Tynelle Taylor-Chase is sixth in the 400 hurdles in 59.70, and Aiyanna James is fifth in the long jump in 19’-4.25”.
IC4A and ECAC Championships are the next events on the schedule for UAlbany, beginning Friday, May 16 at Princeton University. Many of the seniors will not make the trip, as the meet conflicts with their commencement ceremony. After this weekend, any athletes continuing to compete will have two weeks before NCAA East Regionals in Jacksonville, Florida, at the end of the month.
