Josh Nethaway Named Finalist For Fan’s Choice Award

ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany senior baseball player Josh Nethaway has been named one of 16 finalists for the 2014 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby Fan’s Choice Award.
This annual award, now in its third year, recognizes college baseball players who excel beyond the diamond and whose leadership inspires others. The 16 finalists up for consideration in 2014 demonstrate integrity in all aspects of life, stay active in their community and are dedicated in the classroom.
ABOUT JOSH:
A dual major in Accounting and Rhetoric & Communication, as well as a Business minor, Josh boasts a 3.20 cumulative GPA. With some of the best grades on the team and a heavy course load, Josh steered the squad to the highest collective GPA in Division I program history last spring. He also was named to the America East All-Academic Team in 2012 and has been consistently been named to UAlbany’s Athletics Honor Roll.
Josh, a two-year captain for the Great Danes, embodies everything UAlbany looks for in a student-athlete and epitomizes the role. Josh exhibits great sportsmanship, leads by example, and is an outstanding role model for his teammates on and off the field. Across campus, Josh is highly regarded as a great individual. Josh rehabilitated from a season-ending injury in his freshman campaign to have a standout career, showing admirable determination and perseverance.
Josh is actively involved in UAlbany’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and has led the team in a number of community service projects. Projects include; annually raising money to help the American Cancer Society and participating in the Breast Cancer Awareness walk, organizing canned food drives to benefit local communities, as well as partaking in the Adopt-a-Family Program through the Albany County Department for Children, Youth and Families, assisting families in need during the holiday season.
A near .300 career hitter, Josh was a mainstay in UAlbany’s lineup throughout his career, playing in 195 games. Josh broke the program’s doubles record with 55, and ranks second for RBIs with 139. Josh ended his career ranked third for games played and fourth for total at-bats (698). In addition, he became the seventh member of UAlbany’s 200-hits club, amassing 205 hits in his career. Josh was honored by the America East in three straight seasons, earning first-team accolades in 2013, second team in 2012, and all-Rookie honors in 2011.

The TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award is the only college baseball award determined solely by fans. There are three rounds of voting: Round One opens today and ends June 9, with the Top 12 vote getters moving on to Round Two. The field will then be reduced to the top four vote getters on June 16. Round Three voting will end June 23, and the winner will be officially announced June 24. The winner will be honored at the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Neb. on July 3, airing live on ESPN.
