UAlbany Totals 150 Student-Athletes On Winter/Spring America East Academic Honor Roll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Announced by the league office Thursday, the University at Albany had 150 student-athletes named to the Winter/Spring America East Academic Honor Roll, achieving grade-point averages (GPA) of 3.00 or higher during the spring term. Of the 150, the Great Danes had 74 standouts earn Commissioner’s Honor Roll status for completing the spring semester with a GPA of 3.50 or higher.

“Our student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom while balancing the rigors of being a Division I student-athlete at outstanding universities and that is truly impressive,” said America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen.

The UAlbany men’s basketball (10) and men’s lacrosse (25) squads boasted the highest number of honorees in the conference for the respective sports. Both teams also won the America East title and earned an NCAA Tournament victory this season.

America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country. In additions to the Academic Honor Roll, Presidential Scholar-Athlete awards are bestowed to student-athletes who graduate with a 3.75 GPA.  All-Academic teams comprised of student-athletes that excel both academically and athletically are chosen in each of the conference’s 19 sports. Additionally, a Scholar-Athlete, someone who distinguishes himself/herself as the top student-athlete in his/her sport, is awarded. From that group, one male and one female is selected the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The conference also recognizes all student-athletes who achieve at least a 3.0 GPA on its Academic Honor Roll, with those achieving a 3.50 average or better receiving Commissioner’s Honor Roll status. Finally, the Academic Cup is presented to the institution whose student-athletes post the highest grade-point average during that academic year.
