The BlackBerry Bold 9700 gives it
predecessor, the Bold 9000
something to talk about. The Bold 9700 integrates and perfects the
forerunners
features into a slimmer and compact body, awarding consumers with the
ultimate
smart phone. The full QWERTY keyboard, 3G technology, and 3.2 MP digital
camera
gives this smart phone some top notch qualities.
The body of the Bold 9700 is constructed in
similar design
to previous models. The phone comes in a standard black with leather on
the
obverse, above which is the integrated 3.2 MP digital camera with video
capture
and flash. The camera is an upgrade from the original 2.0 MP and takes
adequate
pictures, keeping in mind it’s not a designated camera. You can capture
all the
pictures and videos you want with a standard 256MB of internal memory
and
included 2GB microSD card. The SD port is situated behind the backside
of the
phone and is capable of a 32GB memory, which should be more than
accommodating.
Likewise, on the spines of the phone shelter the 3.5mm headphone jack,
microUSB
port, and designated shortcut key as well as volume rocker and delegated
camera
key. In addition, a unique feature of the BlackBerry models is the
push-in lock
and standby keys. Displayed on the smart phone after lock mode is
activated is
the personal information given, such as name, company, and number to
reach.
This is all brandished on the 2.44-inch,
480 x 360 high
resolution display. Unfortunately, this is a down size from the original
2.75
inch screen, but with a 245 pixels per inch resolution you can’t
complain.
Similarly, the full QWERTY keyboard underwent a reduction in size from
the
“finger” accommodating Bold 9000. Although smaller, texting and sending
mail is
still a breeze and wouldn’t expect any less. On the other hand, the
switch from
a track ball to trackpad made an ample difference. I found the trackpad
much easier
to use to surf the menus and internet compared to the track ball, which
was
more susceptible to breaking.
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 comes with a slew
of standard
features to explore. First off, the 9700 uses the newer BlackBerry OS
5.0
version to enhance navigation speed with in the menu features and
browser.
Although the BlackBerry browser is still comparatively slower than that
of the
iPhone or Android models, it is definitely under renovations for
improvement.
In addition, the Bold 9700 is capable of streaming videos from mobile
YouTube
over the 3G, although a bit choppy, very impressive. The 9700 is also
equipped
with a standard WiFi connection, quad-band world roaming, visual voice
mail,
and Bluetooth. Furthermore, the smart phone is integrated with noise
suppression technology promising clear audio performance. The Bold 9700
is also
equipped with a hands-free speakerphone, headset capability, and
integrated
microphone. The battery is a 1500 mAh removable/rechargeable
cryptographic
lithium cell with approximately 6 hours of talk time and an impressive
22 days
standby time. This beats out its predecessor by 1.5 hours of talk time
and 8.5
days standby.
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is sure to be a
crowd pleaser for
smart phone enthusiasts, and in terms of price, a great update for a
BlackBerry
model. Be sure to check out some other AT&T
BlackBerry models.
