Etymotic ER6i Isolator Earphones

ER6i Isolator Earphones
By: Etymotic

Etymotic Research has a long standing
tradition of developing
breakthrough technologies in both the professional and consumer market.
They
have been praised by countless research firms including Editors’ Choice
and
Audio Review.com for their work in high-fidelity earphones in the
pursuit to
protect hearing while enjoying the up-most sound quality. It’s no
surprise that
the ER6i Isolator earphones heighten even the most subtle key changes
while
delivering a deep bass that you wouldn’t expect when attached to an iPod
or
similar mobile device.

The ER6i Isolator earphones, similar to
other Etymotic
models, come standard with the lengthened eartips that reach deep in the
ear
canal. These eartips provide many advantages in comparison to standard
iPod
earphones. They fit more securely and are perfect for a jog and active
lifestyle and utilize passive noise cancelling “technology.” Contrary to
active
noise-cancelling headphones that use circuitry and microphone signals to
reduce
ambient noise, passive noise cancelling simply seals off the ear canal
from
outside noise. This feature saves both the vitality of your hearing,
allowing
you to turn the volume down while maintaining a similar boost, and saves
you
some serious cash. In addition, passive noise cancelling has been
researched to
be more effective than that of active noise cancelling. The only
drawback of
the earphone tips is the comfort level. The earphones tend to collect an
excess
amount of wax around the tubing and may need to be routinely cleaned.
Similarly, after extended use you may feel some discomfort, but that is
typical
of most earphones. Fortunately, if you do find the earphones too
discomforting
Etymotic has supplied us with alternative tips that are included in the
purchase price. These include foam and flanged silicone rubber ear tips,
replacement filters, and the tools to switch them out. All these
accessories
fit securely in the included zipper pouch along with the ER6i unit.

The cord is a lengthy 5-foot flexible wire
with a
waist/shirt clip that comes in handy especially when walking or running.
The
earphones overall are exceptionally stylish with a transparent body and
easy-to-read “L” and “R” to allocate which ear. Similarly, the ER6i are
now
available in both white and black, to match you iPod or MP3 device. The
6i’s
are not only delivered in style, but performance as well. The ER6i’s
have well
defined mids and highs with a boosted bass response, attributed to a
higher
sensitivity. The enhanced bass is good for earphones, but if you want a
serious
bass punch, a pair of cans would be your best option. As for vocals and
the
trebles, the clarity is exceptional and was dually surprised.

Keep this is mind, the Etymotic ER6i
Isolator earphones sell
for around $99, which in my opinion is an honest price considering the
performance and other models on the market that aren’t nearly up to par…
and 2x
the price. These are a great alternative to headphones and I give my
full
recommendation. However, if you are still unsure you may want to check
