Women’s Lacrosse Named to IWLCA All-Academic Honor Squad
IWLCA All-Academic Squad Release
ALBANY, N.Y. – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced last week that the University at Albany was named to the IWLCA All-Academic Honor Squad. The Great Danes were one of two teams from the America East Conference to be selected to the 65-team Division I squad. Rachael Burek, who graduated in 2013, was also named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
“I’m very proud of our athletes,” said head coach John Battaglino. “We are fortunate to have driven, high character individuals who take a great deal of pride in their studies and how they carry themselves on and off the field. Their academic and athletic success is now part of our team culture and it is contagious.”
In order to be named an IWLCA All-Academic squad, teams must earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Honor roll awardees are nominated by their institutions and must reach junior year academic credit hours.
Burek was named America East Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year in May. Burek graduated with 3.56 GPA and a degree in business administration. She was also honored as the 2013 America East Co-Player of the Year. A 2013 IWCLA All-Northeast Region second team selection, Burek was named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher in 2012-13.
The Great Danes reached the America East title game in 2013, falling to Stony Brook 14-3. UAlbany has won an America East championship two of the last three years.
