Heuser and Morgan Sweep America East Field Hockey Weekly Awards Following 2-0 Start
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Sophomore Liza Morgan was named America East Player of the Week, and freshman Paula Heuser earned Rookie of the Week honors when the league announced its weekly awards on Tuesday.
Morgan was named America East Player of the Week after scoring five goals off the bench in a 2-0 week for the Great Danes. The forward has already accumulated more points in two games (10) than she did in all of 2012 (8). Morgan recorded a hat trick in an 8-0 win over Bryant on Friday, Aug. 30, and scored two goals in a 4-1 win over Providence on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Heuser made her first career starts last weekend against Bryant and Providence. The Monchengladbach, Germany native scored one goal on a penalty corner against Bryant, and accumulated three assists last weekend. The midfielder ranks tied for second in points with five after the first two games.
UAlbany was the only America East team to go 2-0 opening weekend.
The Great Danes host Cornell at Alumni Field at 2 p.m., on Sunday to kick off a four-game homestand.
