Men’s Soccer Posts a Scoreless Tie Against Lehigh on Saturday Night
SCHENECHTADY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s soccer team fought to a 0-0 double overtime draw against Lehigh on Saturday night at the College Park Turf on the Union College campus.
“We did a lot of good things and we created some dangerous chances,” said head coach Trevor Gorman. “Ultimately we have to find the final moment; a shot or that pass that can get us the goal. But the overall team momentum was definitely something to build on.”
The Great Danes and Mountain Hawks remained deadlocked in the midfield for much of the game. The teams combined for just three shots in the first half.
UAlbany picked up the intensity in the second half, with two scoring opportunities back to back. After a corner kick scramble in the 75th minute, senior captain Chris Nisser drilled a shot towards the net but it was blocked. Pomare Te Anau controlled the rebound just outside the 18-yard box and fired towards the top right corner of the goal, but hit the crossbar.
Freshman goalkeeper Eric Orologio made a tough save late in the second overtime to preserve the tie. He entered the game for Tim Allen with ten minutes left in regulation.
The Great Danes held an 11-9 shot advantage and a 6-2 edge on corner kicks.
UAlbany will face Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y., at 4 p.m., on Tuesday before returning to Union for a game against Bucknell at Frank Bailey Field on Friday, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m.
