Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Jon Iati to be Inducted Into York Catholic High School Hall of Fame

ALBANY, N.Y. – York Catholic High School located in York, Pa., announced Wednesday that former boys basketball standout Jon Iati will be inducted into the York Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame on Feb. 1, 2014.

“York Catholic is a special place, where the commitment to catholic education is held in high esteem,” said Iati. “I would like to thank my parents for making the financial sacrifices to allow me to develop socially and educationally in that environment. I am elated to be joining elite company in the Hall of Fame. Any time you can call yourself a hall of fame member it’s a tremendous achievement.”

Iati graduated from York Catholic as the all-time leading scorer in 2003 with 2,216 points. He was a 2003 AP All-State first team selection and the York Area Intercollegiate Athletic Association (YAIAA) Player of the Year in 2002 and 2003. He holds the single-game scoring record at York Catholic with 56 points against York Suburban in 2001.

Iati was one of three boys basketball players at York Catholic to score 2,000 points or more, and one of 13 to score 1,000 points or more. Also ranking among the Irish’s top scorers are Iati’s brother, Jacob and uncle, Tony. York Catholic retired Iati’s No. 4 jersey along with those of his brother and uncle.

After his accomplished career at York Catholic, Iati went on to lead UAlbany to its first America East title and automatic NCAA tournament appearance in 2006. He was the America East Rookie of the Year in 2004 and graduated as the program’s leader in games played (129). Iati is also among the program’s best all-time three-point shooters, ranking fourth in 3-point field goals made (228).

Iati is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Great Danes.
