Daphne Voormolen Scores Division I Program Record Five Goals En Route to 9-0 Victory
ALBANY, N.Y.- Senior forward Daphne Voormolen scored five goals to set a new single-game program record in the Division I ranks, as the No. 11 Great Danes (9-0) beat Sacred Heart (3-5) 9-0 at Alumni Field on Friday afternoon.
“We had a couple of specific goals today, and we reached them by playing at a certain intensity level, said head coach Phil Sykes. “It’s going to take that kind of effort to beat a very polished Stanford team on Sunday.”
UAlbany racked up its highest single-game goal total since an 8-0 win against Bryant on Aug. 30.
Voormolen’s five goals make her the program’s second all-time leading scorer with 45 goals, passing 2012 UAlbany Hall of Fame inductee Amy Di Micco, who scored 41 career goals.
Also getting in on the scoring action for the Great Danes was Molly Mariano, Paula Heuser and Echo Bretz. Ten different UAlbany players tallied at least one point, including five penalty corner assists by midfielder Laura Page.
Maxi Primus played 47 minutes in the cage before being replaced by Averill Erdody in the second half. The freshmen goalkeepers combined for the team’s fifth shutout of 2013.
UAlbany faces its first test against a ranked opponent on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., against No. 6 Stanford.
