Vermont Snaps UAlbany’s Three-Game Unbeaten Streak

BURLINGTON, VT. – University at Albany men’s soccer (3-8-3, 1-2-1 AE) fell 2-1 in Burlington on Saturday afternoon, ending a three-game unbeaten streak for the Great Danes.

Vermont got on the board first on a penalty kick in the 27th minute. It was the first penalty kick against the Great Danes this season. The Catamounts entered halftime with a 1-0 lead, despite Bernard Yaboah’s shot that hit the post as the half came to a close.

The Catamounts made the score 2-0 one minute and thirty seconds into the second half on a give-and-go converted by Beau Johnson.

Phil Denara made several dangerous shot attempts with the Great Danes down 2-0. The sophomore midfielder fired a shot that was saved by Vermont’s keeper Conor Leland, and took a shot that went just wide in the next sequence.

The Great Danes out-shot the Catamounts 5-0 in the middle 20 minutes of the second half.

In the 75th minute, UAlbany nearly went down 3-0, but Dominic McGarr kept a Vermont shot from crossing the goal line.

Brandon Wilson charged down the field a few minutes later to score on a header deflection. Wilson leads the Great Danes with four goals this season.

Philip Persson made one last attempt at the goal in the 84th minute, but the Catamounts back line held to keep the 2-1 win intact.

The Great Danes return home to face Syracuse on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
