UAlbany and Marist Clash at SEFCU: Battle of New York’s Best
ALBANY, N.Y. – The top two women’s basketball mid-major programs in the Empire State the past two seasons will face each other at the SEFCU Arena on Thursday night when UAlbany takes on Marist at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the game are $ 10 for chairback seats, $ 5 for reserved adult seating and $ 2 for kids and seniors. Faculty and staff may get a ticket free with a ticket purchase, and students enter free with a university ID.
This week, UAlbany is ranked #17 in the College Insider Women’s Mid-Major Poll, while Marist is ranked #3. UAlbany has risen to #17 in the poll 25, after starting the season ranked #22 in the preseason.
UAlbany, the two-time defending America East champion, enters Thursday at 2-0 after wins against Siena and Western Michigan. Marist, the winner of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference the past nine years, comes into the game at 0-1 after a home defeat to Kentucky.
Shereesha Richards, the reigning America East Player of the Week, leads UAlbany with 19 points and 10.5 rebounds per game after scoring a career-best 25 points against Western Michigan. Sarah Royals is averaging 15.5 points a contest after scoring 21 against Siena.
Marist comes into Thursday at 0-1 after a home-opening 75-61 defeat to Kentucky. The Red Foxes placed two players on MAAC Preseason Teams this season, including Second Team senior guard Leanne Ockenden, who led Marist with 16 points against Kentucky. First Team member Casey Dulin, a senior point guard who averaged 10.2 points and 3.2 assists per game last year, had surgery before the season and did not play against Kentucky. Senior forward Emma O’Connor nearly had a double double last game with 10 points and seven rebounds.
