TROY, N.Y. – Running in his first Turkey Trot, University at Albany graduate and track and field assistant coach Ricardo Estrema won the 10K road race in 31 minutes and 51 seconds, beating out his friend and rival Jaime Julia, who finished four seconds later.  As an athlete at UAlbany, Estrema earned All-American honors and posted the school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.  Both Estrema and Julia are natives of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The 66th Turkey Trot was held Thanksgiving Day in what was the coldest temperature in the capital region in 13 years.  The temperature at race time was around 24 degrees, and the runners would have to deal with considerable wind along the course.

“It was hard, it was extremely windy and extremely cold with that wind chill it felt like it was 10 degrees,” said Estremera.

Saratoga Springs high school almuna Nicole Blood took the women’s title, finishing in 36:26.
