For the Fifth Time, Shereesha Richards Earns America East Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Shereesha Richards continues to stand out as one of the top players in the conference, earning America East Player of the Week for the fifth time this season, the league announced Monday.

She is now tied with Ebone Henry and Danielle Hutcheson for the most America East Rookie of the Week honors among UAlbany players with five.  She has 12 America East weekly honors in her career including seven rookies, the most in school history.

In addition, Richards’s five weekly honors is the most this season in the league and second-most all-time time in a season.  The record is six held by four different players, last achieved by Chantell Alford of Boston University last season.  No other player has more than two weekly honors, player or rookie, this year.

This week, the sophomore forward earned a pair of double-doubles, standing with five on the season.  In the road win over NJIT, Richards scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, shooting 63.6% from the field and 70% from the free throw line.  She followed up with 19 points and 14 rebounds in Sunday’s game against Quinnipiac, earning her eighth-straight 19+-point contest.

After nine games played, Richards is averaging a double-double a game, leading the league with 23 points and 10.4 rebounds a game, shooting 66.7% from the field.

Richards and the Great Danes will take on Duke on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
