Shereesha Richards Nets Seventh AE Player of the Week Honor, Highest-Ever in Single Season
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Shereesha Richards continues to rewrite record books, being named America East Player of the Week for the seventh time this season, the most weekly awards won in a single season in the conference.
Her seven Player of the Week honors is the most for any UAlbany women’s basketball player in her career. She has 14 conference weekly honors in her career, including seven rookie honors.
The sophomore forward helped UAlbany start conference play with a pair of road victories at Vermont and Hartford to stand in first place in the early going in the America East. Only UAlbany and UNH (1-0) currently stand undefeated in the conference.
Starting at Vermont, Richards set a number of new program records, scoring a UAlbany single season record 41 points. Her 17 field goals and 27 second half points are also new program records. She added 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double.
Three days later, she led UAlbany past conference runner-up Hartford, scoring 23 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the year. She shot 11-18 from the field in the game, adding three steals.
On the year, Richards is averaging a double-double a game, leading the conference with 23.5 points and 11.1 rebounds a game, adding a 64.7% field goal percentage.
Richards and the Great Danes will continue conference play on Thursday, taking on UMass Lowell on Thursday at 7 p.m.
