UAlbany Men’s Lacrosse Takes The Field for First Time in Scrimmage at Colgate
HAMILTON, N.Y. – The #10/11 University at Albany men’s lacrosse team will get its first taste of action on Saturday, heading to Hamilton to play Colgate for a scrimmage at 1 p.m.
This will be the first of two weekends of scrimmages for UAlbany, hosting the following action next Saturday against Princeton and Penn.
UAlbany earned the America East championship last year and finished with a 13-5 record, returning all three of their All-Americans. Lyle Thompson was selected as the Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse Division I Preseason Player of the Year after earning 50 goals and 63 assists last season. All-Americans Miles Thompson and Ty Thompson each scored over 68 points last season. On the defensive end, Blaze Riorden is back after starting all 18 games in goal with a 59.1% save percentage, with defensemen Cody Futia, Jon Newhouse and Doug Eich protecting the cage in front.
Colgate went 8-7 last season, falling in the Patriot League semifinals to eventual league champion Lehigh. Five of the team’s six leading scorers come back from last season, including the leading goal-scorer, junior attack Ryan Walsh, who had 37 goals and 11 assists, and senior team captain Jimmy Ryan, who had 15 goals and eight assists last year. Their primary goalkeeper, senior Conor Murphy, is also back after having a 51.5% save percentage.
