Women’s Tennis Knocks Off Local Rival Siena on Sunday
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women’s tennis team (2-2) picked up its second win of the spring season, 4-3 over Siena on Sunday. The Great Danes also fell 7-0 at Boston College on Saturday.
“The Siena match was a good win,” said head coach Gordon Graham. “ I never doubted we would win it, but it did get a bit dicey as we tried to close it out with our top three singles.”
Mireille Hermans downed her opponent in the No. 2 singles match against the Saints, while Kirsten Scott and Paulina Torres won in the four (6-2, 6-0) and five spots (6-2, 6-1), respectively on Saturday.
In doubles, the team of Cheryl Kukkonen and Alba Sala downed Siena’s top doubles team 6-2. Kirsten Scott and Torres sealed a doubles point for the Purple & Gold with a 6-3 win.
