Viktoriia Stroilo Named America East Volleyball Scholar-Athlete

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University at Albany volleyball standout Viktoriia Stroilo has been named the 2013 America East Volleyball Scholar-Athlete, announced by the conference office Thursday.

Stroilo, a junior from Luhansk, Ukraine, has accrued a 3.74 cumulative GPA as a biology major and was named to the 2013 America East All-Academic Team.

On the court, Stroilo is a two-time America East Defensive Player of the Year and was named second team all-conference — the only libero/defensive specialist to earn all-conference honors. Stroilo led the league with 4.96 digs per set in all matches and 5.41 digs per set in conference matches, finishing with team-best 367 digs and 20 service aces.

Scholar-Athletes are members of teams in the six America East-sponsored championship sports for the fall season including men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey and volleyball. A committee of athletic administrators and NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives selects an honoree for each sport based on their performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or prominent reserve.

Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport. Then, a committee of athletic administrators and NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives chose an honoree in each of the six fall championship sports. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50. They will automatically be eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award to be announced this summer.
