UAlbany Faces Coach Abe’s Former Team at Maine on Sunday

ORONO, Maine – The Great Danes head to Coach Abe’s former stomping grounds on Sunday, taking on Maine at the Cross Insurance Center at 2 p.m. on February 16th.

Victors of 13-straight, including all 12 America East games thus far, UAlbany wraps up a two-game road trip after defeating UMBC in Baltimore 56-46 on Tuesday, coming in a 22-3 overall.  Maine has won its last four games, coming off a 60-56 road win over Hartford on Wednesday, to go into its home game at 8-4 in-conference and 14-11 overall.

UAlbany coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson returns to Maine, where she was an assistant coach from 1992-94.  UAlbany has won the last eight meetings with Maine, including an 84-56 win at home on January 18, but Maine leads the all-time series 16-12.

UAlbany has been second to none in the America East the last three years, winning its last 35 conference games, the longest current conference winning streak in Division I.   Its last league loss came January 28th, 2012, a 62-55 loss to Hartford.  UAlbany is two games away from tying the all-time America East conference-winning streak of 37-straight by Maine from 1995-97.

This game sports the two top offenses in the America East.  UAlbany is first in the conference with 73 points a game, while Maine is second, averaging 65 points a contest.

In four of her last five games, Megan Craig has earned a double-double, combining for 97 points and 50 rebounds in those games, making 42 shots and shooting 62.7% from the field in those games.   Shereesha Richards also had a double-double last game, standing with a league-best 21.4 points and 9.5 rebounds a contest.  Sarah Royals is approaching the UAlbany season record for assists, just 12 away after standing with 124 on the season.

Maine stands in fourth place after being predicted to finish sixth in the preseason.  The team’s leading scorer is senior guard Ashleigh Roberts, who averages 13.2 points and 5.4 rebounds a game.  In the paint, sophomore forward Liz Wood, the reigning Co-Rookie of the Year with Richards, stands with 12.5 points and 6.1 boards a contest.  Primary senior point guard and Baylor transfer Cherrish Wallace gets 7.4 points and 3.8 assists a contest.
