Elizabeth Snow Named Rookie Of The Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University at Albany freshman Elizabeth Snow has been named America East Softball Rookie of the Week, the conference offices announced Tuesday. Snow is the first UAlbany athlete honored for the weekly awards, in the second week they have run, which was also UAlbany’s first week of competition. Snow was joined by two athletes from UMBC this week. Catcher Taylor Hall was named player of the week, and her teammate, Jessica Holte, was named pitcher of the week.
Snow, hailing from Long Beach, California and Robert A. Millikan high school, started each of the four games UAlbany played last weekend at the Citrus Classic at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida. Officially listed as a catcher/utility player, Snow played two games apiece at catcher and first base. Over the course of the tournament, in which one game was cancelled due to inclement weather, Snow batted .286 with one home run and three RBIs. Her best game came against Marshall, UAlbany’s first opponent in the Classic and Snow’s inaugural outing as a Dane. She went 3-5 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Most importantly, she hit her two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at seven, forcing extra innings. UAlbany eventually defeated Marshall in 10 innings 12-11, and came back four times in the game before clinching victory.
Next up for Snow and UAlbany softball is the Towson Classic, where the Danes are slated for two games each against Towson and Canisius, broken up by one game against Delaware State. The tournament kicks off on Friday, March 7 and runs through Sunday, March 9 in Towson, Maryland.
