Bowles Earns Second-Straight America East Weekly Award, Savitcheff Named Rookie of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – Sophomore midfielder Rachel Bowles earned America East Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors and freshman Dakotah Savitcheff was named the league’s Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Bowles recorded a 12-point week behind eight goals and four assists. The sophomore tallied five goals and one assist in UAlbany’s home opener on Saturday against Quinnipiac, a 16-2 victory. Bowles also scored three goals and recorded three assists in a 16-5 win at Manhattan last Thursday.

Savitcheff scored six goals in the Purple & Gold’s win at Manhattan. The freshman attack’s goal total is the highest for any rookie in a single game since teammate Ariana Parker scored seven in 2011 against Hofstra. Savitcheff also had one goal against the Bobcats.

Bowles leads the team with 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points. Savitcheff ranks second with 11 points on 11 goals.

The Great Danes are receiving votes in the Brine and IWLCA polls this week after starting the season 3-0.  John Battaglino’s squad ranks third nationally in scoring margin (10.67), fifth in scoring offense (17.33 goals per game) and 12th in scoring defense (6.67 goals allowed per game). UAlbany is also one of 15 remaining unbeatens in Division I women’s lacrosse.
