Women’s Golf Places Ninth At Mimosa Hills

RESULTS

MORGANTON, N.C – With a 13-stroke improvement from day one, the University at Albany women’s golf team placed ninth out of 14 teams after shooting a 324 in Monday’s second round of the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate in Morganton, N.C. The Great Danes totaled a 661 (+85) in the tournament, five strokes off eighth-place Towson (656) and one in front of 10th-place finisher Appalachian State (662).

High Point took the crown, shooting a 297 on the second day of play to finish with a score of 610 (+34). Western Carolina (627), Winthrop (628), Gardener-Webb (632) and Bethune-Cookman (633) rounded out the top-five.

Individually, Victoria Choi led UAlbany, tying for 19th-place in a field of 78. She was consistent on the course, shooting an 80 in both rounds. Paige Fujihara finished with a 169, tied for 48th-place, after chalking a score of 86 on Monday. Rosalee Hearns and Lisa Agoglia each scored a 171, as Agoglia shot a team-best 77 in the final round, while also cutting 17 strokes off her opening round score. Sam Schuffenecker finished closely behind with a 173, including Monday’s 81 that marked an 11-stroke improvement.

High Point’s Grier Bennett placed first overall (150), recording a tournament-low 73 in round two.

The Great Danes continue the spring season on April 7th and 8th, competing in the Purple Eagle Women’s Invitational in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
