Softball Hosts Siena; Binghamton Rescheduled

ALBANY, N.Y. – Another long layoff has plagued the University at Albany softball team, with the home opening series against Binghamton just the latest in a long list of games to be cancelled so far this season.  The three game set was pushed one day from its original Saturday/Sunday schedule to a Sunday/Monday spot.  But it was then pushed again to a Monday doubleheader, eliminating the third game.  Finally, the doubleheader was postponed officially, and will be made up on Tuesday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m.

Before then, however, UAlbany (9-7, 1-2) will play host to crosstown rival Siena (10-11) in a midweek doubleheader.  The two-game set will be the Danes’ first live competition since returning from the Rebel Spring Games in Florida, where the team played nine games over five days of competition and one rest day.  But the last game they played was against Buffalo on March 18.

The Danes face a similar situation to the one they experienced earlier in the season.  The team kicked off the season in Florida for the Citrus Classic, and was scheduled to play in the Towson Classic two weeks later.  Instead, the entire tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather, inadvertently giving UAlbany three weeks off between games.  It was as though they were starting over when they returned to Florida, and it will likely feel similar now.

Even with the shift in schedule for the Binghamton series, UAlbany will still play all but three of its home games by April 9.  The Danes are scheduled for nine games between now and that date.  After the home stand, the team will hit the road before returning for one last home set with conference opponent UMass Lowell.  Finally, the Danes will conclude playing seven games on the road.

The first game tomorrow is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.  The second game will follow at 5:00 p.m.  The Danes will play at Siena for a doubleheader later in the season, on April 29.
