Del Fava Named Women’s Track Performer of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Adding to the accolades she won during the cross country season, University at Albany senior Silvia Del Fava was named America East Track Performer of the Week.  She was joined by New Hampshire senior Caroline Bonsaint, representing women’s field, and Maine seniors James Reed and Nathaniel Meade, representing men’s track and men’s field respectively.

Del Fava earned this week’s recognition competing in the 5,000 at the Great Dane Classic on Friday, January 17 at the Armory in New York City.  Del Fava’s winning time of 16:39.70 was not only a new personal best, bringing her career time down from 16:46.07, but also a new meet record and school record.  The previous meet record was set at last year’s meet by Patricia Barry, running unattached in 16:42.94.  The previous UAlbany record was set in 2006 by Alyssa Lotmore with a time of 16:46.69.  Del Fava’s time also satisfied the ECAC qualifying standard.

Del Fava is the fourth separate UAlbany athlete to be named as an America East Performer of the Week.  Last week, Alexander Bowen, Chris Buchanan, and Kathryn Fanning were named as such for their performances in the season opener at the Penn State Indoor Relays.

UAlbany’s next event is the Upstate Challenge at Cornell University on Saturday, January 25.
