A perfect complement to the DC23 is the spot clean up Dyson
DC31 handheld vacuum. This vacuum has all the bells and whistles we have come
to expect from the Dyson Company in addition to the digital motor. This digital
motor promises to be 3 times faster than the conventional motor attributing to
greater efficiency and suction. Likewise, the “no” carbon brushes on the motor means
no carbon emissions, holding up to the Dyson “environmentally friendly” name.
The DC31 is a great fit into handheld category with a light
weight structure, sleek design, and .09 gallon bin perfect for spot clean ups.
The DC31 has some definite improvements in comparison to the previous models;
the trigger activation helps to conserve the 10 minute battery life (double
that of the DC16) and the dual power mode allows for a greater suction in deep
crevices and corners. However, the dual power does eat through the battery
faster, with a life of around 6 minutes. The DC31 is still relatively loud but
significantly quieter than the previous but the trigger helps to limit the use
required for the cleanup job. In addition, the bulky AC battery charger was
replaced with a smaller charger for the DC31 which proved to be a greater
improvement than expected. The charger is also equipped with a timer that shuts
off after 3.5 hours, indicated by a green LED light.
It can definitely be said that everyone would like a
handheld with good suction and long battery life, and Dyson has evidently kept
that in mind with the DC31. The DC31 may not be a replacement for the corded
vacuums but for those spot jobs, should be more than enough.
