Logitech Z623 THX-Certified 2.1 Channel System
Anyone who has tried to listen to music with built in computer speakers knows that these compact speakers, made with small size not intense quality in mind, often lack the base and deep tones of a larger speaker system. While listening on tiny computer speakers may be bearable, no desk is complete without a good speaker system. The Logitech Z623 2.1 channel speaker system can fill this void without breaking the bank.
The system is simple and includes two satellite speakers and a subwoofer. All you have to do to set it up is plug the subwoofer into a power outlet, plug the right and left speakers into the subwoofer, and connect the system to the device you want to listen to. You control the power, volume, and bass from the right speaker.
Logitech gives you a few options with connecting your computer or device to the speaker system. On the subwoofer, it has an RCA input and a 3.5mm input jack. On the speaker it has a second 3.5mm input jack which is in identical to the one on the subwoofer, but may be more convenient and accessible depending on the placement of your system or if you want to have two devices connected to the speakers at once so you can easily change between the two. You can use an everyday AUX cable to connect the headphone jack of your computer to the speakers. AUX cables are extremely convenient because they will work on any device with a headphone jack including phones or other media players. This is great because if you only want to listen to music and not use your computer, you can connect your MP3 Player or phone to the speakers and save some electricity by not running your entire computer.
Logitech did not disappoint with sound either. When I tested the system with the two 35 watt speakers and the 130 watt subwoofer, music, games, and movies all sounded crystal clear. The subwoofer added amazing bass when needed and was easy to dial back from the controls on the speaker in order to hear vocals clearer. Be careful with it though because it’s easy to get carried away and you might end up making some of your neighbors mad.
The speakers are THX certified which means they are designed to replicating the same sound effects you would hear in a movie theatre. While the speakers are good at movie playback, the THX certification does not make a significant difference here. There are other speakers systems that are not THX certified which play movies perfectly well, but since it also doesn’t cause an unreasonable hike in the price, there isn’t much to lose.
Logitech has built itself a reputation for selling quality sound systems at low prices. The Z623 is no exception. Starting at 149.99, it is reasonably priced 2.1 system, but if you really want to have your mind blown when you’re using your speaker system, I would suggest a 5.1 channel surround sound system. While it’s pricier and takes up a lot more space, you’ll be happier in the long run.
