Fanning Named Women’s Outdoor Track Performer Of The Week
America East Release
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University at Albany senior Kathryn Fanning has been named America East Women’s Track Performer of the Week, the conference offices announced Tuesday. It is Fanning’s second time earning the award this season, and third time this year, having been named once during indoor. She joins teammate Brittney Lane, who was named three times during the cross country season, as UAlbany’s only three-time winners this year. Fanning shares the award with Brittany St. Clair from Vermont, Trae Proctor from UMBC, and Joe Miceli from Binghamton.
Fanning was among a small contingent of UAlbany athletes that competed in the Upstate Classic at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, while the remainder of the team took the weekend off from competition. Fanning competed in her signature outdoor event, the 1,500m. She set a season best of 4:25.15, winning by more than 17 seconds. The time also places her 40th in the NCAA East Region, which is significant because the NCAA Preliminary Championships accept only the top 48 times in each region. Fanning additionally ran a leg on the victorious 4x400m relay team, splitting 58.7.
Attention now shifts homeward for the UAlbany track team, as the inaugural UAlbany Spring Classic will be held Saturday, April 19. It is the second of three home meets for the Danes this year, but the biggest of the three. With the trip to the Mt. Sac Relays cancelled, every UAlbany athlete who is able will have a chance to compete at home this weekend.
