Field Hockey Names 2013 Season Captains
ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany field hockey head coach Phil Sykes announced Tuesday that seniors Corrine McConville and Daphne Voormolen have been named co-captains for the 2013 season. Junior Jordyn Homyak was appointed vice captain.
“I think our three captains will represent the 2013 team very well,” said Sykes. “There is a lot of experience among these three and they are determined to have a strong year.”
Daphne Voormolen earned 2012 America East Co-Player of the Year honors, as well as being named the 2012 conference tournament’s Most Outstanding Performer. McConville is a two-time All-America East first team selection. The seniors combined for 62 points last season.
Homyak was an America East All-Rookie team honoree in 2011. She started all 21 games in 2012 on defense, recording two defensive saves.
The Great Danes were picked as the preseason America East favorite on Aug. 22, after winning the league title in 2012. The squad opens its season with two games in Providence, R.I., against Bryant and Providence this weekend.
