Former UAlbany Women’s Basketball Standout Julie Forster Signs Professional Contract in Denmark

ALBANY, N.Y. – Former University at Albany forward Julie Forster recently signed a contract to play professional basketball in Denmark for Stevnsgade BBK in the Dameligaen League.

Stevnsgade is coached by Tygesen Mogens and is based in Copenhagen. The team is part of the 10-member Dameligaen League. Stevnsgade travels to Germany and Sweden in addition to playing an 18-game regular season schedule in Denmark.

“We are extremely excited for Julie and her great opportunity to continue her basketball career in Denmark,” said UAlbany women’s basketball head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.

Forster graduated in 2013 as the program’s leading rebounder, averaging 9.3 rebounds per game for her career and totaling 1,149. She was the first Great Dane to tally over 1,000 rebounds in her career.

Forster was a three-time America East All-Conference, All-Defensive and All-Academic selection, in addition to being named to the All-Rookie team in 2009-10 and the All-Tournament team in 2011-12 and 2012-13. She was named the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012-13 by the league’s coaches. Forster led the Great Danes to their first America East Championship in 2012 and two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in 2012 and 2013.

“You never really leave your “Dane” roots, I guess,” she said of the move from UAlbany to Copenhagen.

Forster departs for Copenhagen in mid-August and the season begins at the end of September.
