Great Danes Drop Game to Binghamton 2-0

ALBANY, N.Y. – A rough night for the UAlbany women’s soccer team ended in a 2-0 defeat to Binghamton on Thursday at Bob Ford Field.

The Bearcats (6-4-2, 1-1-1 AE) attacked the goal early, taking three shots in the first two-and-a-half minutes.  Alana Brennan saved the second shot, while the third hit the crossbar.

UAlbany (1-11-1, 0-3-1 AE) tried to counter in the fifth minute, earning a Krista Fitzpatrick corner kick, but did not get a shot off.

In the 22nd minute, Katie Corcoran kicked a cross towards the left post.  Stephani Church, in the goal box, kicked the ball into the net to put the Bearcats in front 1-0.

Brennan stood strong in the net, protecting against three shots in a row from the 23rd through the 25th minutes.  The Great Danes defense held for the rest of the half to keep the deficit at one.

In the second half’s opening minutes, Kari Quinn saw room across from the goal about 25 yards out, but Gaby Gold saved the ball for Binghamton.

Getting a free kick, Connie Gormley kicked the ball from midfield to the penalty box, finding Emily Nuss.  Nuss turned and kicked the ball off the bounce into the left side of the goal for a 2-0 Binghamton lead.

Late in the game’s 89th minute, Alexa Schneider got fed the ball for a header, but Gold made the save.  UAlbany did not get another shot off and fell 2-0 to Binghamton.

Despite the loss, Brennan had 12 saves in the contest.  Quinn and Caitlyn Paltsios each had two shots.

For the Bearcats, Church got her fourth goal of the year on her only shot, and Nuss had her second of the season on five shots.  Carrie Martin got the win after playing the first half in goal.

The Great Danes will head to Long Island on Sunday to take on rival Stony Brook at 2 p.m.
