Heuser, Primus Earn America East Field Hockey Weekly Awards Following 2-0 Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Freshman midfielder Paula Heuser was named America East Rookie of the Week and freshman goalkeeper Maxi Primus earned Defensive Player of the Week honors following a 2-0 week for the Great Danes.

Heuser scored three goals and tallied one assist in wins against Yale and Rutgers to earn her second America East Rookie of the Week nod. Heuser scored the game-tying goal for the Great Danes against Yale after UAlbany went into the second half down 2-1. The freshman also scored an insurance goal later in the half to give the Great Danes a 4-2 lead. Heuser also recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-0 shutout of Rutgers on Sunday.

Primus made seven saves in the cage against Rutgers on Sunday. The freshman recorded more stops against the Scarlet Knights than she recorded in four previous games combined. The freshman is the nation’s top goalkeeper in goals against average (.0.60) and has only allowed three goals in five games for the Great Danes.

UAlbany is in the midst of its best start under head coach Phil Sykes. The Great Danes are 5-0 for the first time in program history in the Division I era. Not only does Primus post the top goals against average in the nation, but the Great Danes are also nationally ranked in several other categories. UAlbany in fourth in scoring average (4.60 goals per game), third in scoring margin (4.00) and fourth in points per game (12.00).

Next up for UAlbany is a mid-week game at Alumni Field against cross-town rival Siena on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
