Enter: Your new sidekick: HTC Inspire 4g

The Inspire 4G
By HTC

AT&T has launched another Android model for the 2011 year to rival the Motorola ATRIX and the Samsung Galaxy. Since its release on February 13th, The HTC Inspire has been given high praise amongst expert and consumer reviews with its 4G speed, 8 Megapixel Camera, and Android 2.2 OS. The Inspire is a fully loaded phone with a sizeable 4.3” LCD display; this is a big screen phone with the features to back it up.

The Inspire 4G’s 800 x 480 pixel display is the center piece of the phone with WVGA capacitive touch, allowing for a sensitive touch command. The screen united with the SRS WOW playback and Dolby Surround makes this a great phone for movie and music playback. The Inspire is definitely designed around the screen, with four small touch sensitive keys outlining the bottom. Similar to Apple models, the button commands are Menu, Back, Search, and Home. Likewise, the sides house a volume control, power and/or lock button, a 3.5mm Audio Jack, and a USB terminal. Unfortunately, the Inspire lacks an HDMI port that’s integrated on many Snapdragon-based Android phones. On the other hand, the built-in DLNA connectivity allows users to stream media from your phone to your television. On the obverse side, HTC decided to go with a uni-body metal alloy design that gives the phone a substantial feel and aesthetically appealing. Both the SIM card/microSD and battery are housed under removable plastic that takes up substantial real estate on the back. While the SIM card/microSD cover was easy enough to remove, the battery proved to be a bit of a difficulty. Luckily, most users don’t need access to their batteries daily. Likewise, you should expect to be charging your phone daily with a battery life that’s less than superb. The running background applications and screen kill the battery life after extended use. Fortunately, the Force Stop feature allows users to “pause” running applications and improves battery life substantially. Also found on the back is the 8 MP camera with a dual LED flash. The Inspire does lack a front facing camera but this camera more than makes up for it. Next to the flash is another microphone used for noise cancellation.

The Inspire has given us 4G HSPA+ connectivity over the AT&T network that allows for comparable speed improvements. Likewise, the phone is equipped with HTC Sense UI and coupled with the Android 2.2 OS, which makes the Inspire beat out much, if not all of its competition. The HTC Sense runs on the Android operating system through applications and widgets and includes many features such as app drawer, launcher, and lock screen alternatives. Another feature is the Friend Stream which taps into your social media contacts such as Twitter and Facebook friends, and lets you know what they are doing over a simple interface. HTC also allows you to customize your Sense with wallpapers, Skins, and Scenes. In addition, the Inspire supports Adobe Flash 10.1 which will give you more freedom to search the web for supported videos and the always favorite, YouTube videos. Although it is not equipped with a front facing camera, the 8MP camera with 720HD video recording did the trick. There are many improved features to the camera such as Auto Focus and touch focus. These features along with color adjustments/effects and the toggled dual LED flash produced high quality pictures that I haven’t seen on any other 8MP camera phone. All in all, the specifications of this phone are impressive, and the camera quality and features make this phone one of the most integrative to date.

Overall the HTC Inspire 4G is as impressive as it gets and for only $99.00, it’s unbeatable. Purchase the Inspire 4G w/ 2 year contract at http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/htc-inspire.jsp#fbid=FW02PRXpqaF
