Lennon Earns Defensive Weekly Honors, Women’s Lacrosse Visits William & Mary on Tuesday

ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany women’s lacrosse (5-0) had a player earn league weekly honors for the fourth straight time on Monday, when Kathleen Lennon was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week. The Great Danes will also face William & Mary (1-5) in Williamsburg on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.

Lennon had eight draw control victories to go with four caused turnovers and four ground balls in UAlbany’s 17-10 win over Cornell on Sunday. The senior led the Purple & Gold in all three categories. Lennon tops the league in draw control victories per game with 5.40 and ranks 12th nationally.

UAlbany extended its record to 5-0 with the victory against Cornell at home. Eight different Great Danes scored against the Big Red, led by Rachel Bowles with four goals. Anna Berman made nine saves in the cage.

Bowles continues to be nationally ranked in goals per game (2nd, 4.20) and points per game (2nd, 6.20). The sophomore leads the league in both categories, as well as assists per game (2.00). She has scored at least three goals in every game this season and tallied at least one goal in nine of her last 10 dating back to 2013.

The Great Danes are receiving votes again this week in the Brine Media and IWLCA Polls. John Battaglino’s squad ranks fifth in the nation in scoring offense (16.25 goals per game), sixth in scoring margin (9.11), and 11th in scoring defense (7.40).

SCOUTING WILLIAM & MARY

The Tribe is out to a 1-5 start with a win against Coastal Carolina. William & Mary has lost to Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke and Louisville. Duke, Maryland and Virginia are all nationally ranked out of the ACC.

Taelor Salmon leads the Tribe on offense with nine goals. No William & Mary player has tallied more than two assists or 10 goals, as the Tribe has been held to 7.83 goals per game to their opponent’s 14.83.
