For generations Master Lock
has been distinguished as the largest global manufacturer of security locks and
units for our world’s businesses, government/institutions, and personal
consumers. Since inventor/founder Harry Soref in 1919, Master Lock has
continued to design and develop models with the security of accurate and “no
corners cut” materials. This craftsmanship can be seen today as it was nearly
one hundred years ago, something that can not be said for everything.
The 7142D large chest offers
security for your most valuables, including paperwork, such as car
titles,
insurance papers, birth certificates, etc. The safe itself is fire
retardant to
ensure the protection of your contents with a heavy gauge steel
construction
and reinforced cam lock to connect the lid to the body. The safe is also
equipped 2x carrying handles on either side to secure the contents
during
transport. The safe comes with 2x keys, both with dual sided notches so
no two
keys are alike. Upon receiving the keys, make sure to record the key
numbers to
obtain a replacement set, otherwise you will have to contact a third
party,
such as a locksmith. However, it would be nice to see a similar model
with
similar dimensions (4”H x 13 1/4 W x 10 ¾” D) that comes equipped with a
security cable. The safe and lock keeps intruders from directly breaking
in and
stealing, but doesn’t prevent the intruder from taking the safe all
together.
This way with a security cable you can wrap it around a desk or even the
frame
of your bed. Similar to the 7142D large security chest is the 7143D
drawer
safe.
The 7143D drawer safe on the
other hand is much like a cash box for small valuables and personal
items. The
drawer safe has a similar black steel construction with cam locks and 2x
keys.
This model comes with a removable 4-compartment tray to better organize
your
valuables. Smaller paper documents fit nicely under the compartment
tray. The
dimensions for this model are 3”H x 6 ¾”W x 7”D with a list price of
$14.47
while the 7142D security chest sells for around $30.00.
