CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University at Albany junior outfielder Vicky McFarland has been named America East Softball Player of the Week for Week 5, the conference offices announced Tuesday.  McFarland was named alongside Pitcher of the Week Jessica Holte from UMBC, and Rookie of the Week Shelby Obert from Maine.

Playing in the first block of competition at the Rebel Spring Games, McFarland batted .421 (6-19), with one double, two RBIs and two walks in six games from the leadoff position in the lineup.  She also stole five bases on five attempts.  She capped off her week in the sixth game on the docket by batting 4-4, scoring two runs, driving two runs in, and stealing two bases.  UAlbany went 4-2 in their first six games at Rebel.

Entering Tuesday, McFarland has started all 12 games UAlbany has played this season.  She is batting .257 with 12 runs scored, nine walks, and 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts.  UAlbany wraps play at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday, completing their 10 games in six days schedule.  The Danes open regular season play this weekend with a three game set over Saturday and Sunday at Stony Brook.  Next weekend, UAlbany hosts a three game set with Binghamton for the team’s home opener.
