ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany men’s basketball (8-8, 2-1 AE) looks to rebound from its first league loss against Vermont at UMass Lowell (3-12, 2-1 AE) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Great Danes stayed with Vermont in the first half in Burlington, but couldn’t overcome a big second half run by the Catamounts and fell 68-38. Gary Johnson scored a team-high nine points, while Johnson and DJ Evans brought down five rebounds each to lead UAlbany.

HALF A GRAND FOR HOOLEY

With two made free throws and a three-pointer in the first half against Vermont, sophomore guard Peter Hooley tallied his 500th career point, and now has 503 mid-way through his second season. Hooley is averaging 15.1 points per game behind 36.0 minutes played per game.

IT’S HOOLEY’S LINE, ANYWAY

Hooley is now ninth on the Division I career leaderboard in made free throws with 158. He posts a career free throw percentage of .849, which ranks 21st among active players.

KINGS OF THE GLASS

Three current players rank in the top-10 for Division I career rebounds. Luke Devlin is sixth with 457 career rebounds, John Puk is 8th with 429 and Sam Rowley rounds out the group at No. 10 with 381.

WON’T TOUCH THIS

The Great Danes rank 36th in the country in fewest personal fouls per game, averaging 17.1. UAlbany is making it count on the other end, making an average 16.4 free throws per game, while its opponents average 12.8.

 2-FOR-1

The Purple & Gold is 2-1 in America East play for the third consecutive year. In the previous two seasons, the Great Danes have always picked up a win after their first league loss.

SECOND IS THE BEST

The Great Danes rank second in the nation in free throw percentage (.783), and top the America East for the ninth-straight week. Sophomore guard Peter Hooley ranks 28th (.882, 82-93) overall, 21st among players who have attempted 50 or more free throws and 10th among those who have attempted 75 or more.

SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL

• The River Hawks are 2-1 in conference play after downing UMBC for their first Division I program win, 59-54 on Jan. 5. UMass Lowell followed that up with a 71-59 win on the road against Binghamton on Jan. 11.

• UMass Lowell shot a season-best 45.5% (10-22) from the 3-point line against Binghamton, as well as going a season-high 50% from the field (24-48). Three River Hawks scored 10 points or more, including Akeem Williams (23), Antonio Bivins (16), Tyler Livingston (12) and Chad Holley (11). Williams also had nine assists and seven rebounds.

• The only loss for Pat Duquette’s squad in America East play came against Vermont, 62-48 in Lowell on Dec. 18.

• The River Hawks rank third in the conference in three-point field goals made, averaging 6.8 per game.
