Men’s Cross Country Competes at Meet of Champions

BRONX, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s cross country team made the trip down to renowned Van Cortlandt Park this weekend to compete in Iona’s Br. Doyle Meet of Champions. The men scored 379 points to finish in 15th place overall out of a field of 20 teams.
For the second consecutive race, junior Christopher Buchanan was the top finisher for the men, crossing the finish line in 46th place with a time of 26:41.90. Sophomore James Sommer wasn’t far behind Buchanan, recording a time of 26:51.36 and a 58th place finish. Sophomore Jonathan Moore finished in 109th place with a time of 27:36.04. Junior Peter Schweitzer and junior Andrew Pirnie rounded out UAlbany’s scoring athletes, finishing in 111th and 117th place with times of 27:40.56 and 27:45.07 respectively.
Rounding out UAlbany’s top seven were senior Dylan Lowry, who finished in 128th place with a time of 27:52.22, and senior Youness Benzaid, who finished 131st with a time of 27:55.52. Junior Eric Billinson also competed for the Danes, finishing in 180th place with a time of 29:23.07. In total, 207 athletes competed in the 8k race.
Iona recorded a team victory in their hosted invitational, placing all five scoring runners in the top 12 overall. Iona’s posted a 60-point victory over second place Yale, scoring 37 points to Yale’s 97. Navy narrowly finished third with 103 points.
The men next travel to Lehigh for the Paul Short Invitational on October 5 at 11:00 a.m.
