ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany men’s soccer (3-7-3, 1-1-1- AE) notched three more points in conference play on Wednesday night with a 3-1 win over UMass Lowell (2-12, 0-3 AE).

“We’re pleased to get a good conference win and score three goals,” said head coach Trevor Gorman. “It was a total team effort with a number of guys stepping up for a few missing pieces.”

Brandon Wilson scored in the fourth minute to become the team’s leading scorer this season. Phil Denara found Wilson through the middle, with the forward firing far post for the score. The junior has found the back of the net three times, including twice under the bright lights of Bob Ford Field, to lead the team with six points.

Wilson nearly had two goals in the opening five minutes, working around the River Hawk goalie with one minute and thirty seconds gone. A UMass Lowell defender came across the goal line to prevent the early goal.

The River Hawks found a response mid-way through the first half, with Homero Morais recording his fifth goal of the season.

In his first playing time this season, freshman Leonardo Rodrigues volleyed a cross from Pomare Te Anau into the top left corner for the gamewinning goal five minutes later. Te Anau tallied his second assist of 2013.

Three minutes after Rodrigues made the score 2-1, Thomas Manz gave UAlbany some breathing room, scoring on a corner kick rebound. The senior captain found a corner kick service from Philip Persson to give the Great Danes a 3-1 lead.

UAlbany’s three goals mark a season high. The last time the Great Danes scored three goals or more was in a 3-1 win at New Hampshire on Oct. 14, 2012. Trevor Gorman’s squad also notched a season-high three assists in the win.

Freshman Eric Orologio made his second start in net for the Great Danes and made three saves.

The Great Danes visit Vermont in their next America East contest on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
