ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany men’s soccer (5-10-4) will look for its second consecutive road win this Saturday at Vermont in the America East quarterfinals at 1 p.m.

The Catamounts won the regular season meeting 2-1 in Burlington. The leading scorer for the Great Danes, Brandon Wilson, scored the lone goal for UAlbany in that contest. Vermont holds a 5-8-3 advantage in the Division I series.

UAlbany and Vermont met in the 2011 America East tournament quarterfinals, with the Great Danes winning 3-2 as the No. 6 seed. The Great Danes also won their 2005 quarterfinal meeting in penalty kicks. Both wins took place in Burlington.

The 2013 America East Tournament marks the seventh appearance for the Great Danes since joining the league in 2001. The Purple & Gold made its first appearance in 2004 post a 1-5-2 record. Of their eight appearances, five have been decided by penalty kicks, one goal or in overtime.

The Great Danes picked up their first win on the road this season at Binghamton on Wednesday. UAlbany took an early 2-0 lead after an own goal by the Bearcats and a score from Bernardo Mattos. Jonathan Interiano and Leonardo Rodrigues earned assists on the Mattos goal. The Binghamton own goal was created by a two-on-one opportunity for the Great Danes, when Anthony Rozzano passed the ball across the field. In an attempt to intercept the pass, a Binghamton defender played the ball away, but into the goal. The win combined with a Stony Brook loss gave UAlbany the No. 5 seed.

This marks the second time the Purple & Gold have earned the No. 5 seed. The last time was in 2005 when UAlbany downed Vermont in penalty kicks.
