Mikala McCauley Earns Second America East Rookie of the Week Honor
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Helping UAlbany close out the home season with a pair of wins, Mikala McCauley was named America East Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday.
McCauley last earned the league’s weekly rookie honor for the period ending October 16th. In 2013, UAlbany has earned five Rookie of the Week awards this season, including four of the last five weeks. Amanda Dolan also has two honors this year, while Laini Leindecker has the other.
The freshman setter for UAlbany helped the Great Danes will a pair of weekend matches against Providence and Hartford in a combined seven sets.
She nearly had a pair of double doubles this weekend. In a sweep against Providence, McCauley had 32 assists and nine digs, helping UAlbany hit .284 in the match. Then on Sunday against Hartford, she matched a career-high in digs with 19, completing her ninth double double of the year with 33 assists.
McCauley and the Great Danes will prepare for New Hampshire on Friday at 7 p.m. on the road.
