No. 11 Field Hockey Achieves its Highest All-Time Division I National Ranking

ALBANY, N.Y.- The University at Albany field hockey team notched its all-time best national ranking at No. 11 when the NFHCA released its weekly poll on Tuesday.

The Great Danes are 5-0 to begin the 2013 season and are one of just six undefeated teams remaining in the Division I ranks.  The others are No. 1 North Carolina (6-0), No. 2 Maryland (6-0), No. 3 UConn (5-0), No. 4 Virginia (7-0) and No. 5 Syracuse (6-0). 

The Great Danes are 5-0 for the first time in program history in the Division I era. Freshman goalkeeper Maxi Primus posts the top goals against average in the nation (0.60). The Great Danes are also nationally ranked in several other categories. UAlbany in fourth in scoring average (4.60 goals per game), third in scoring margin (4.00) and fourth in points per game (12.00).

The Great Danes have out-scored their opponents 23-3 and have taken 47 penalty corners, compared to 12 combined for their five opponents. 

Next up for UAlbany is a mid-week game at Alumni Field against cross-town rival Siena on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Great Danes lead the all-time series 12-0. In their last meeting UAlbany won 8-0 on Sept. 21, 2011.  The Saints have lost 44 straight games dating back to 2010.
