JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University at Albany athletes competing in the NCAA East Preliminary Championships did not see any of their teammates compete on Friday, day two of the meet, because no UAlbany athletes were entered in Friday events.  Three of the six athletes who made the trip would compete on Saturday, the final day of competition.  Senior Kathryn Fanning, who ran the 1,500 on Thursday would compete in the next round of the event on Saturday, while junior Alexander Bowen and freshman Nathan Hiett would compete in the men’s high jump and pole vault, respectively.

Previously, on Thursday, Jeremiah Obeng-Agyapong and Tynelle Taylor-Chase competed in the men’s and women’s 400 hurdles, failing to qualify for the next round.  Silvia Del Fava succumbed to misfortune in the women’s 10,000, cramping up on the last lap, unable to finish her race.

Misfortune continued Saturday for UAlbany’s athletes.  Hiett led off proceedings in the men’s pole vault Saturday afternoon, but he failed to clear a height.  Next up was Bowen, who finished in a tie for 14th place with a mark of 6’-10.25”, notably below his season best height of 7’-2.25”, which would have won the meet.  Fanning was the last UAlbany athlete to compete, finishing 24th in the women’s 1,500 in 4:41.99.

None of UAlbany’s six athletes who made the trip advanced to national championships.  Without any qualifiers, UAlbany’s 2013-14 track & field campaign finally comes to a close.
