1500iD Speed Dial and Precision Dial Comparison
By MasterLock
Master Lock has created 2 new padlock
designs with 2 very
different “spins” on the classic dial. The 1500iD Speed Dial uses
directional
movements in place of the standard number dial allowing you to secure
your
valuables faster and with greater ease. On the other hand, the Precision
Dial
1590D uses the conventional right-left-right movement with both letters
and
numbers to diversify the combination. Similarly, both locks are equipped
with
Master Lock’s anti-shim technology. The anti-shim mechanism uses a latch
assembly to block and trap the intrusion of a shim tool. Likewise, the
locks
are endowed with hardened steel shackles with similar dimensions.
The
Precision Dial has a sturdier construction than that of the Speed
Dial. Unlike previous models, the dial “clicks” when rotating for the
desired
combination. Furthermore, the Precision Dial comes with a key to reset
and
change the combination unlike the Speed Dial which was a more daunting
task.
After searching for the combination on the instruction guide and
watching the
instructional video, I thought I knew what I was doing. While holding
the
shackle down and putting in the factory combination, I decided to reset
it to
an easier combination. Unfortunately, I locked it without the
combination, now
the lock deemed “useless.” As it should be, combination retrieval
requires a
long process of photocopying the lock and serial number to ensure that
you are
not breaking into a safe or locked unit as well as filling out forms.
After
everything is said and done, it takes approximately 4-6 weeks for your
request
to be processed. This being said, make sure the shackle is pressed
down and move the center piece to the full extent in the
desired direction.
The 1500iD Speed Dial comes in
red, blue, black/white, and
black/green while the Precision Dial 1590D comes in light blue,
black/blue,
green and red. The Speed Dial can also be customized with included
stickers to
help remember your combination. Overall, I was more fond of the
Precision Dial
with an easy set up and sturdy construction. Both the Speed Dial and
Precision
Dial sell for around $10.00.
