Shereesha Richards Earns Unprecedented Eighth America East Weekly Honor
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For a spectacular eighth time this season, Shereesha Richards has earned America East Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Last week, with her seventh weekly honor, Richards set a new single season record for Player of the Week honors and the UAlbany women’s basketball record for the most Player of the Week honors in a career. No other America East player has gotten three or more weekly awards this season, including Player and Rookie of the Week honors.
This past week, Richards earned her 10th and 11th double-doubles of the season in victories over UMass Lowell and Maine, keeping the Great Danes undefeated in conference play at 4-0. Her 11th double-double tied the UAlbany record for double-doubles in a season.
The sophomore forward started the week with 23 points and 10 rebounds on the road against UMass Lowell. Two days later, she netted nine field goals against Maine, ending the contest with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
She leads the America East in scoring with 23.2 points a game, seven points more than the second-place player, and 11 boards a contest, almost three-and-a-half more than its second place player.
Today, Richards and the Great Danes will take on Binghamton on the road at 7 p.m.
