Shereesha Richards Honored as America East Player of the Week Third Time in a Row
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the third time in as many chances, Shereesha Richards has been selected as the America East Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
This is the first time in UAlbany’s D-I history that a women’s basketball player has been honored as America East Player of the Week three weeks running. Last year, Richards won America East Rookie of the Week three weeks in a row from December 10th-24th and five times in six weeks. This is her tenth weekly award, adding to seven rookie of the week awards last season.
In addition, only one other player in UAlbany’s D-I history has won three conference Player of the Week awards in a single season, with Ebone Henry getting a trio of weekly honors last season.
This week, Richards continued her strong shooting, helping UAlbany finish out a four-game homestand with a pair of wins over Cal State Fullerton and Delaware State.
On the week, the sophomore forward shot 66.7% from the field and 90.9% from the free throw line. She averaged 25 points and six rebounds a game, including matching a career-high 28 points against Delaware State off 11-14 shooting.
She has scored at least 22 points in a her last four games and continues to lead all conference players in scoring with 23.2 points a game and rebounding with 9.6 boards a contest.
Richards and the Great Danes will leave the comforts of home and take on Providence on Wednesday, November 27th at 7 p.m.
