Softball Wins Two On Second Day Of Rebel

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – After splitting the first day at the Rebel Spring Games, the University at Albany softball team claimed two victories on the second day. The Danes (5-3) claimed victory in a rematch against Saint Peter’s, who they defeated in the late game yesterday. They also beat South Dakota later Friday afternoon.
UAlbany took the lead over Saint Peter’s early, with Vicky McFarland scoring on a groundout to shortstop by Maggie Cocks. They didn’t score again until the fifth inning, when Kelly Costello singled to right field, scoring McFarland again. The Danes won by a final score of 2-0. Mackenzie Thompson (1-1) earned the victory on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout with four strikeouts and four walks on only two hits.
In the second game, Brittany MacFawn (3-1) also pitched a complete game shutout, striking out four and walking none to lead the Danes to a 1-0 victory over South Dakota. UAlbany’s sole run came in the top of the first inning, when McFarland scored on a Cocks single to left. McFarland scored all three runs for the Great Danes on the day.
Tomorrow, UAlbany is slated to play two more games. The Danes will first play Creighton at 9:00 a.m., and then immediately play Howard at 11:00 a.m.
