Three Named To Men’s Track All-Academic Conference Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East conference offices announced the All-Academic selections for the indoor track season on Thursday, and the University at Albany led all member institutions with three selections.  Junior John DeLallo and senior Daryl Subran were each named to their second consecutive indoor All-Academic team.  Junior Andrew Pirnie also was named to the most recent cross country All-Academic team in the fall.

Eleven athletes from five of the nine America East member institutions comprised the full indoor track All-Academic squad.  In addition to UAlbany’s athletes, Hartford, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont each had two selections.  John Busque and Erik Quitzau represented Hartford, Wilson Adams and Kelton Cullenberg represented Maine, Zachary Chabot and John Prizzi represented New Hampshire, and Martin Kallur and Ed Simon represented Vermont.

DeLallo has accumulated a 3.80 GPA studying physics.  He was previously named to the All-Academic squads for 2013 outdoor track and 2013 indoor track, and was the America East’s 2013 Spring Scholar-Athlete honoree.  DeLallo led UAlbany in the 800 during the indoor season and placed second in the mile, third in the 1,000, and second in the distance medley relay at the America East Indoor Championships.  He sits in ninth in the 800, third in the 1,000, and fifth in the mile in UAlbany indoor history.  He ended the season seventh in the 800, sixth in the 1,000, and third in the mile among America East competitors.

Pirnie has accumulated a 3.49 GPA studying business.  In addition to his All-Academic selection in cross country, he was also named to the 2013 outdoor All-Academic squad.  Pirnie placed third in the 800 at the America East Indoor championships, and finished the season 11th in the 800 and 13th in the 1,000 among America East competitors.

Subran has accumulated a 3.67 GPA studying biology, for his second consecutive indoor track All-Academic selection.  He ran on the victorious 4×400 relay team at the America East Indoor Championships.  In addition to sitting in fourth place all-time in UAlbany history in the 600, Subran finished the indoor season 14th in the 500 among America East competitors.

Each nominee must be at least in sophomore standing academically, have compiled a minimum 3.3 GPA and have competed in at least 50 percent of the team’s 2013-14 contests or be a significant reserve.

Student-athletes worthy of consideration are nominated by member sports information directors and voted on by a committee of SIDs, academic advisors and faculty representatives from all nine member institutions.
