Towson Classic Softball Tournament Cancelled

Towson Classic Softball Tournament Cancelled

ALBANY, N.Y. – Having taken the last two weeks off from competition, the University at Albany softball team was scheduled to travel south this weekend to play in the Towson Classic, against Towson, Canisius, and Delaware State.  However, inclement weather that rendered the playing field unusable forced Towson to cancel the tournament.

The Danes (2-2) kicked off their season at the Citrus Classic in Orlando, earning victories against Marshall (in 10 innings), and Northern Illinois, and losses against East Carolina and NC State.  They were scheduled to play a fifth game against Lamar, but inclement weather at that tournament forced an adjustment of the schedule, and the Lamar game was cancelled.

Six of UAlbany’s first 10 games have been cancelled due to weather, giving the team a longer break than anticipated after competition finally began.  The Danes won’t have to wait much longer to get back on the field, however, as they are scheduled to return to Florida next week to play in the Rebel Spring Games.  The team is scheduled to play 10 games against eight teams from March 13 through March 18.  Teams on the slate include Utah Valley, St. Peter’s (twice), South Dakota, Creighton, Howard, Army (twice), UW-Green Bay, and Buffalo.

After the Rebel Spring games, the final preseason tournament on the schedule, the Danes will begin regular season play on March 22 at Stony Brook, before starting a long home stand on March 29 against Binghamton.
