UAlbany Volleyball Looks to Build Momentum on Two-Match Road Trip

ALBANY, N.Y. – After winning their first match against Binghamton in front of the home crowd, the Great Danes will head east to take on Hartford on Friday at 7 p.m. and Providence on Saturday at 5 p.m.
UAlbany stands at 1-0 in the America East and 1-12 overall after its victory over Binghamton last Sunday. Hartford fell to Providence in its AE opener, standing at 0-1 in-conference and 6-11 overall, while Providence comes into Friday at 1-0 in league play and 8-9 overall.
UAlbany won a pair of 3-1 matches against Hartford last year and swept Providence twice. MJ Engstrom’s UAlbany teams have dominated these two schools. The Great Danes are 9-1 against Hartford and 8-1 against Providence in Engstrom’s tenure.
Hartford’s loss to Providence snapped a three-match winning streak. The top attack threat on the Hawks is a freshman out- side hitter: Corinne Horanzy has 125 kills and 12 aces. Junior outside Sareeta Nethersole is hitting .163 with 109 kills, 142 digs and 22 blocks, while junior setter Jackie Tamburri has 554 assists, 18 aces and 161 digs.
Providence comes into Friday having won its last three matches and will play Binghamton before UAlbany. The team’s leader in kills with 149 is junior outside Mackenzie Ziegler. Fresman out- side hitter Kayla Fitzgerald stands with 139 kills, 22 aces, 169 digs and 27 blocks. Sophomore middle Lindsay Witt leads the Friars with 49 blocks, hitting .290 with 95 kills.
